Mes
the Jive Turkey – Ground Opening
Where
are you from?
Born
in Yorktown, TX but I grew up and was raised in Dallas
What
made you get into Hip Hop?
I always
had friends that were into the music and I always wanted to know the words. I would always hear people in the lunch room rapping
and I wanted to do it. I started out biting underground rappers verses and killing ciphers then I just decided to write my
own and it worked.
How long
have you been rapping?
9 years
(I’m still young)
What
are your feelings on the current status of Hip Hop Culture?
I have
hope. Everything is looking bad on tv but I try to stay away from it. Even some of my favorites have been disappointing me
lately but I have been around this country and seen the future. I know so many upcoming rappers and producers that are DOPE.
I know what’s in store for the future of hip-hop so I am ready and anxious. I have yet to find a new interest in the
b-boy scene. I used to have a passion for it but it’s falling off. I am not sure how I feel about that…
How different
is Hip Hop now compared to 20 years ago?
I am
only 21 so I can’t really speak about it like I know.
What
direction would you like to see the culture move in?
I wish
that people I have always liked would make good music again. But other than that I am content with hip-hop.
What
role does you or your team play in the Hip Hop movement?
We are
hoping that we can make a big step for Texas. There isn’t much going on out here that has hit a wide scale. Most of
the people out here trying to do stuff don’t really like us. I guess it’s because we are moving so fast. The main
thing we want to do is let people know that there is GOOD hip-hop in Texas and not just Mike Jones. Who?
Do you
have any Projects in the works? What should your fans expect in the next year?
Ground
Opening is working on a crew album and we will probably have that out by August. I am working on the project with Rob Viktum
as The Socialists. That is my main focus at this point. The album is called Hell’s Rhythm and is going to be released
on Self Core Records (owned by Mr Dibbs of Atmosphere) and is going to be distributed by Rhymesayers Entertainment. The first
single, Hell, will be released August-September.
Where
can we buy or listen to your music?
www.groundopening.com
What
is your definition of Freedom?
Freedom
is liberty of the people from slavery, detention, or oppression. We’re not free.
Who is
your favorite Mcee?
EMS of
Gutterball. Don’t sleep.
Do you
have any shouts outs or last comments for the reader?
Just
make sure you check out everyone at www.groundopening.com. My whole crew is dope and we are trying to make a
little noise. Also spread the word that on the new C Rayz Walz album, Year of the Beast, track 12 called The Blackout was
not produced by MykDefy. It was produced by VJ Smooth of Ground Opening!!
